Both Yahoo and Microsoft have upgraded their search engines in an effort to gain ground on market leader Google.
Google accounts for over half of all Internet searches and holds 75% of the search market in the UK.
Microsoft has upgraded its Live Search service, while Yahoo has provided a more refined search facility, plus links to photos, music and video on the results page.
Microsoft’s improved Live Search will be launched globally this month. It utilises three-dimensional mapping for location-relevant searches. It also offers video, charts and pictures for relevant results.
Yahoo’s enhanced search engine offers ways to phrase a search request which display as a user types into the query box.
It uses information from calendar service, Upcoming.org, to display relevant local events, and also offers video, charts and pictures for relevant results.
