I mentioned before that I found Seth Godin’s Knock Knock and Who’s There to be disappointing.

However, at the recent SEO Roadshow Aaron Wall threw me a copy of The Big Moo.

I read it over a couple of train journeys.

It’s an inspiring book.

Thirty-three different “new marketers” tell how creativity and fringe thinking reinvigorate marketing and push business forward.

The entries are short - a couple of hundred words each, 2 small pages, and you’re on the next article. It makes it easy to consume.

It also allows any message to get through short and sharp.

The first article tells of how Houdini is often thought of as one of the world’s greatest ever magicians. Then points out that Houdini was a lousy magician. Houdini was an Escape Artist, and effectively invented it as a profession. Those who create dramatic new markets can have a big impact on the public psyche.

The rest of the articles discuss, question, challenge - invigorate the reader to look at their own ideas, and rethink themselves stronger.

It worked on me.

Some of the pieces are stronger than others. Some seem to read too much as sales hype (all energy, little substance) - but otherwise it’s a strong multi-faceted work.

Seth Godin only wrote one of the pieces. See if you can guess which one it is.

I think any book in any genre that can make a reader think is a treasure. The Big Moo is one of them.
