When I was looking for a laser printer for the office, I read a few reviews and eventually came to the decision that the HP Laser Jet 1300 would be a great medium-level laser printer to invest in.
It cost £250-ish from PC World and overall it’s been a great purchase.
I’ve never had problems with the inks or printing quality, and it’s generally been a great laser printer to work with.
However, the sheet feeding has caused a couple of frights - namely because if paper jams while printing, there’s no obvious way to get to the sheet to free it. This leaves you trying your best to rip it out of the top of the machine, hoping that you get all of the paper out.
It’s only happened a couple of times, and seems to occur if you place too many sheets in the feeder.
Generally, this is a printer that works well with regular small volumes, but I’d hate to think of how the paper jamming issue would affect work if it was regularly called to print 500 sheets at a time.
Maintenance issues haven’t been a concern, as it’s easy to look after, and changing the ink isn;t a problem, though of course, like many printers, it does cost quite a bit - about £60 a cartridge.
Overall, it’s been a great machine, and has been ideal for my small office.
TIP: When you buy it, ensure you get a dust cover to prevent dust getting into the top of the machine.
