Veoh Networks tests internet video browser
by Jan Harris
San Diego based company Veoh Networks is testing a new piece of software which acts like a Web browser but displays only Internet video.
The new software programme, VeohTV, presents full-length television shows and popular clips from leading video sites such as NBC.com and YouTube.
The product should be available to the public later this year if tests go according to plan.
VeohTV features an easy-to-navigate directory of its video channels. It can play them either full-screen or in a small window, providing a user-friendly way to watch online video.
Veoh Networks already operates a video-hosting Web site, Veoh.com. The site is similar to YouTube, except it does not limit the length of videos and does not use digital fingerprinting technology to exclude copyrighted material.
Neither does the company ask for permission to play material from other Web sites. These factors have led to claims that the company is failing to adequately protect intellectual property.
Veoh.com attracts around 15 million visitors a month – a substantial increase from just 4.5 million in January.
