Customers less satisfied with Apple, Dell and Google

According to the latest American Customer Satisfaction Index, published by the University of Michigan’s National Quality Research Centre, customers of Apple, Dell and Google were less satisfied with the companies’ products and services.

Overall customer satisfaction with the PC industry fell 3% compared with last year. Apple and Dell were the worst performers, with customer satisfaction dropping 5%.

Dell scored just 74 out of 100 on the index. The only PC manufacturer with a lower score was HP’s Compaq unit which scored of 73. Hewlett-Packard achieved a one point rise to 76, while Gateway rose two points to 75.

Although Apple dropped 5 points, it still managed to retain the top spot with 79.

Google held its position as the most popular search engine, but lost ground to Yahoo! which took the lead in terms of customer satisfaction with a 4% increase. Google’s customer satisfaction rate dropped 4%.

The overall results of the index indicate that weak consumer spending will continue.

The American Customer Satisfaction Index surveys satisfaction levels among 70,000 consumers in different industries, including the US personal computer market.
