Windows closed for Christmas

Microsoft have announced that release of their next-generation Operating System for Windows – Vista – will now be delayed to January 2007.
Business users will have access to Windows Vista from November of this year, but normal consumers will have to wait until after the important Christmas shopping season before they can buy a new PC with Vista installed.
It presents an embarrassing situation for Microsoft, who have already been accused of watering done key innovations for the operating system, in order to please investors with a fixed release date.
The delay is likely to please few people – especially PC manufacturers, who may find themselves challenged to sell computers in the holiday season.
Overall, the danger is that Windows Vista will become little more than a Windows Millenium – a rushed project that fails to deliver on key technologies.
Perhaps we should be asking ourselves less of what Vista will deliver, as much as what its successor will improve upon.
