Microsoft releases Vista hardware specs

Microsoft has released information on the hardware requirements for running their next generation Windows Vista operating system.

While the processing power and data storage size don’t offer any surprises, Windows Vista will demand a whopping 1GB of RAM memory to operate properly.

It will also require a minimum of a 128 MB graphics card memory to run the new Aero 3D graphical display.

Microsoft have come under fire for delays in releasing Vista, and additionally for not scheduling release until after the Christmas shopping period – with release of six different versions set for January 2007.

Here are the Microsoft minimum and recommended specifications for Windows Vista:

Minimum requirements:

• 800MHz processor
• 512 MB of system memory
• A graphics processor that is DirectX 9 capable

Recommended requirements:

• 1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor1
• 1 GB of system memory
• 128 MB graphics card running Windows Aero2
• 40 GB of hard drive capacity with 15 GB free space
