Google tops list of 10 leading e-commerce developments

The Software & Information Industry Association has published a list of the top 10 most significant developments in e-commerce over the past decade.
The list recognises the importance of e-commerce in the growth of the global economy. The listed developments have acted as a catalyst for a multitude of innovative products and services.
Predictably the Google search engine heads the list, followed by Broadband penetration, eBay auctions, Amazon.com, Google Adwords, Open standards (especially HTML), Wi-Fi, User-generated content, Apple’s ITunes and RIM’s Blackberry.
The list marks the 10 years since the Clinton administration released the “Framework for Global Electronic Commerce,” policy document.
The document aims to increase the confidence of both business and consumers in the Internet.
The SIIA put Google in first place because of the way it fundamentally changed the way the internet was used.

Speaking of Google, perhaps it’s time to admit that the emperor is buck naked? Google is no longer an asset to small business. It’s digressed into a black box designed to extract as much money as possible from small business while giving back as little value as possible.
