Google Street View: the cars, the unfortunate pics

Google Street View is coming under a lot of fire, forcing Google on the defensive again, about privacy issues – again.

Not sure why? Here’s a couple of pics Google have taken recently.

You can’t even pee or lay naked in your own garden without Google taking a pic, it seems.

It appears privacy in the US is commodity – it seems the moment you sign up for a US service, you automatically opt into their marketing.

Not so in the UK, where privacy is protected more stringently.

As a US company, Google seems to forget that the world is not the USA, and vice versa, so what they can get away at home is presumed to work overseas – until the techies pass the buck for professionals in the company to sort out.

Sure, Google’s mapping services could be very useful – but let’s put user interests on the table before they have their pictures taken.

In the meantime, I’m pretty sure the ICO is going to find themselves busy with Google repeatedly over the next few years.
