Free website for your business
by Darren Allan
Business owners who haven’t yet taken the step of setting up a website might be interested to learn about a new scheme which has been set up by Google, BT, Enterprise UK and a number of other partners.
Getting British Business Online, or GBBO, is a government backed initiative which aims to do exactly what it says on the tin.
If you don’t have a website, the scheme will give you a free .co.uk domain (providing its available), and a template site.
The idea is to help those who aren’t online take the first step, with the aim being to usher 100,000 new business onto the web by the close of the year. Businesses that might not otherwise bother, because they feel the time, hassle and expense of creating a website might not be worth it.
The free service also offers traffic monitoring. So what’s the catch, you might ask?
Well, it’s free for two years, but then you’ll need to pay to renew your domain for a further two years – though that will only be a matter of a few pounds.
Of course, the template designs are probably very basic, too. Even so, if you’re not on the net at all, and want a basic web presence, it could be a good way to test the waters.
Browse you way over to www.gbbo.co.uk if you’re interested in finding out more.
