Sony considers tablet PC
by Darren Allan
The rumour mill has it that Sony is considering entering the tablet PC market itself.
This news comes hot on the revelation that BT is also considering making a communications oriented tablet.
And, of course, there are all the other tablets already well underway – such as HP’s upcoming effort, which was the Slate, but is now rumoured to have been rebranded the Hurricane (it will be based on WebOS, according to the Examiner).
Indeed, such is the turbulence in the tablet world – witness Microsoft’s dual-screen Courier, which was recently binned – Sony is waiting to see exactly how strongly the iPad sells before it commits itself.
Sony isn’t convinced about the market, even though Apple has flogged well over a million of its tablets, and is set to add to that with the international release at the end of the month.
It seems that Sony will wait and see how the iPad performs over the longer term, before throwing its weight into developing a device itself.
