World Cup malware warning for social networkers
by Jan Harris
With the World Cup due to kick off tomorrow, CyberDefender has issued a timely warning to watch out for the malware that always accompanies big events.
The security company warns that links on social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook can take users to video feeds infected with malware, spyware, viruses and Trojans.
The company also warns Internet users about offers that seem too good to true, and to avoid websites offering free tickets to the event.
These sites will ask the user to enter their phone number, which will result in a recurring charge.
With ISACA recently listing Malware as the top risk involved in employees accessing social networking tools in the workplace, it will be even more important over the next few weeks to make sure that everyone knows how to use social networks safely.
