Vuvuzela iPhone app most annoying ever?
by Darren Allan
If you’ve been watching the World Cup, then you can’t fail to have noticed the vuvuzelas. Or heard them, rather.
These are the plastic horns the Africans, and other fans, can’t get enough of blowing, all the way through every match.
The effect is such that to us viewers, it sounds like the spectators watching the game aren’t people, but a swarm of angry bees. Lord only knows what it sounds like in the stadium itself.
Well, if you can’t get enough of the vuvuzela – perhaps you have an affinity for black and yellow insects, or you’re clinically insane – then you can now experience it via an iPhone app.
Multiple apps, actually, all of which let you blare out the deafeningly annoying sound of a vuvuzela at the mere touch of the screen. Marvellous.
There are apps out there for Android, too, lest robot themed OS users should miss out on the sound of a beehive being hit with a ten pound lump-hammer, repeated over and over throughout ninety minutes.
We’ll be glad when – hopefully – the BBC adopts the promised plan to allow viewers to press the red button and get a stripped down version of the sound, minus the insect noises.
