Apple reveals iCloud

by Jan Harris

The key revelation at Apple’s annual developers’ conference this year was a digital storage service dubbed iCloud.

The service, which offers 5GB of storage for free, remotely stores data from digital devices, acting as a handy back up and also synchs contacts, events and files so that all the devices are kept up to date.

iCloud users will be able to store music online following talks between Apple and major recording companies.

The usual iPhone update was absent from the conference this year but should be announced in autumn.

The launch of iCloud marks the end of MobileMe, Apple’s £61 a year cloud service which Steve Jobs said “was not our finest hour”.
