UK SMB's benefit from technology investment

According to new research carried out by Accelerator in association with Cisco, the vast majority (over 90%) of Small and Medium Businesses (SMBs) in the UK, gain significant benefits from their investment in technology.

The ‘Accelerator Business Confidence Survey’ found that 45% of the SMBs surveyed had gained clear, tangible business benefits from their IT investments, while a further 48% said they had already seen benefits from their investment in IT and expected more to follow.

IT was found to help improve the efficiency of employees, with 62% of respondents saying that IT helped to bring employees into an effective network, while 39% said that IT helped staff to get their jobs done.

Customer service technology was identified as effective in improving responsiveness by 41% of those surveyed, who also felt it helped their business compete with larger firms.

The survey identified IT security as an as an area of concern, with 53% of those surveyed saying they had basic security in place but felt there was room for improvement.

According to Cisco, SMB’s are now benefiting from the availability of technology specifically tailored for their business needs, rather than having to accept enterprise-scale solutions. This has resulted in improved efficiency, customer service, and ability to compete against larger enterprises.

The ‘Accelerator Business Confidence Survey’ polled over 500 members of UK SMB’s, 87% of which employ fewer than 50 people.
