The Information Commissioner’s Office has launched a new website to help young people manage their online information and raise awareness of potential risks.
A recent survey of 2,000 young people, by the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) found that over half of them revealed personal details on Internet sites. The survey covered people aged between 14 and 21.
The ICO warns that young people should be more aware of their electronic footprint, as they are putting their future careers at risk with the details they post on social networking site.
Around 71% of those surveyed would not want colleges or employers to see the information they had posted online.
The ICO also warns that post personal details online places an individual at risk of identity theft.
Around 60% of those surveyed revealed their date of birth online, 25% revealed their job title and 10% even gave away their home address.
