The European launch of the Playstation 3 has been announced as March 23rd.

Although the US and Japan saw the Playstation 3 go on sale in November of last year, problems mass producing parts for the console’s Blu-ray disc drive meant that shipping the Playstation 3 was post-poned.

The reasoning provided by Sony was that the European market was logistically more complicated, and therefore would be best shunted back until other main areas had been supplied.

Even still, only the 60GB version of the PS3 will be initially available in Europe, with 1 million units ready for sale. There is no launch date as yet for the smaller 20GB version.

The Playstation 3 will retail for around £425 at first, though prices may drop nearer Christmas.
