Government should help SMEs go green
According to research by ISP, Eclipse Internet, 82 per cent of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the UK would like more guidelines from the government on how to reduce their carbon footprints.

Eclipse Internet surveyed 250 SMEs across the UK and found that 85 per cent of them rated going green as a top priority and incorporated it into their five-year business strategy.

However, only 10 per cent of respondents understand the meaning of going green and many businesses were unable to utilise new working practices which can provide environmental savings.

Mark Lang, a director at Eclipse Internet, believes that the benefits of going green should be highlighted to engage SMEs in environmental issues.

The study found that many companies are unaware of simple measures that can be taken to reduce their carbon footprint, such as flexible working practices.

Other low cost measures include turning off monitors at the end of the working day and recycling waste.
