Mozilla has released version 2.0.0.10 of its Firefox browser. The new version features bug and security fixes, including a memory error patch.
The latest version is also better at handling digitally signed pages and includes a workaround to prevent hackers attempting to fake HTTP Referer headers.
Earlier versions of the browser allowed a fake HTTP Referer header to be created by exploiting a timing condition when setting the ‘window.location’ property.
This made it possible to launch a Cross-Site Request Forgery attack against websites that relied exclusively on the Referer header to protect against these attacks.
Mozilla advises Firefox 1.5 users to upgrade immediately. Firefox 2.x users will receive an automated update notification.
The update can also be applied manually by selecting ‘Check for Updates’ from the Help menu.
