Speaking at the launch of Small Business Week 2007, Bill Murphy, the managing director of BT Business, announced plans to enhance BT Tradespace’s e-commerce capabilities. Tradespace allows small businesses to establish an online presence.
BT is planning to improve the search capabilities on the site, which should make it easier for users of the site to sell directly to customers.
Consumers will be able to search the site for ‘chocolates’, for example, rather than having to search for businesses that make chocolates.
The BT Tradespace site has not previously been promoted directly to consumers, but BT now plans to start advertising the service.
This should improve traffic to the 28,000 business user profiles on the site, which has been relatively low, so far.
BT also plans to increase integration between Tradespace and its online and paper-based directory services. A business’s tradespace address could be listed alongside its entry in standard paper directories.
