Apple wins ruling against secret sources

by brian_turner

Apple has won a landmark ruling in its battle against leaked product releases, after a US judge ruled that online publishers are not protected against revealing sources, as print publishers are.

The case was brought by Apple against three Apple fan sites, that published secret product news before Apple officially released it.

Santa Clara County Superior Court Judge James Kleinberg ruled that the websites were not entitled to protect the identity of their sources, and must make the information accessible to Apple.

Although this proves something of a victory for the company, Apple’s legla pursuit of fan sites is seen to be damaging to public relations.
