Facebook becomes number one search term

by Jan Harris

‘Facebook’ was the most popular search term for US users in March, according to Experian Hitwise, while ‘facebook login’ came in at number three.

Search terms including the word ‘Facebook’ accounted for eight searches across the top 10 lists for the three biggest search engines, while ‘Yahoo!’ related terms appeared six times, and ‘MySpace’ terms appeared four times.

Strangely, many people are searching for ‘facebook.com’, which was the third most search item on Yahoo.

Others are using Bing to search for the term ‘google’, and using Google to search for ‘Yahoo!’!

It seems that many internet users still haven’t cottoned on to the idea of URLs.
