AVG warns of yet another Facebook scam

by Jan Harris

Security company AVG has warned of another Facebook scam which takes advantage of users’ natural curiosity about who is looking at their profile.

Facebook users are offered a ‘fool-proof’ app which allows them to see who is checking them out.

Of course this is a scam, which eventually asks the unwary user to agree to a $19.99 monthly charge to their cellphone.

The scam generates the message “OMG OMG OMG… I can’t believe this actually works! Now you really can see who views your profile!!! WOAH –> hxxp://spy.facebooktricks.info//”

The user is asked to post the message five times Facebook in order to “See who viewed your profile!!”

The profile scam follows another attack on the social networking site earlier this month when an IQ test took control of users’ profiles and signed them up to a $10 per month premium mobile phone service.

Facebook advises users that they will never be asked to paste something into their address bar or sign up to premium services by a legitimate application.
