Logitech K800 keyboard with intelligent backlighting

by Darren Allan

Logitech has announced a new addition to its keyboard range, a wireless illuminated model to help those typing (or playing games) in gloomy or darker environments.

The K800 is different to your traditional backlit keyboard in that it features both light and motion sensors. The light sensors detect the ambient light conditions, allowing the peripheral to determine how strong to make the backlighting, which is pretty clever.

And the motion sensor turns the backlight off if there’s no activity going on, to ensure the wireless keyboard’s battery is conserved while you nip off to make a cup of tea and get distracted shooing the neighbour’s cat out of your flowerbeds.

Logitech claims that this means the internal battery should last for around ten days, and recharging it is simply a matter of plugging in a micro-USB cable.

The keyboard also boasts Logitech’s patented PerfectStroke key system, and “Incurve” keys. Apparently, the former makes the key presses satisfyingly soft and quiet, and the latter is the actual concave and round-edged key design.

The Logitech Wireless Illuminated Keyboard K800 is expected to be available in September with the price point pitched at £89.99.
