Lincolnshire Council subsidising SMEs wage bill

by Jan Harris

North Lincolnshire Council has launched a £1.7 million scheme to help SMEs create new jobs.

The scheme will pay half the salaries of workers recruited by firms with less than 250 employees, who have been in business for six months or longer.

It is hoped that it will support the creation of 350 new jobs.

However, the funding, which is provided through a central government grant for deprived areas, is only for 12 months.

The council is also supporting businesses in its area with its superfast broadband plan.

It is collaborating with North-East Lincolnshire Councils to submit a joint bid for funding to Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK).

If the bid is successful, superfast broadband could be deployed to all businesses and residents in the South Humber region.
